Dr. Lawrence Summers, 71st Secretary of the United States Treasury and former President of Harvard University, will join three current Schwarzman Scholars for a discussion of the obstacles and opportunities headed our way in 2024. This wide-ranging discussion will explore Dr. Summer's insights about the world economy, geopolitics, and leadership. A moderated interview with our distinguished guest will be followed by a Q&A session with the audience.

The Speaker嘉宾介绍

Lawrence H. Summers is the Charles W. Eliot University Professor and President Emeritus of Harvard University. During the past three decades, he has served in a series of senior policy positions in Washington, D.C., including the 71st Secretary of the Treasury for President Clinton, Director of the National Economic Council for President Obama and Vice President of Development Economics and Chief Economist of the World Bank.
He received a bachelor of science degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1975 and was awarded a Ph.D. from Harvard in 1982. In 1983, he became one of the youngest individuals in recent history to be named as a tenured member of the Harvard University faculty. In 1987, Mr. Summers became the first social scientist ever to receive the annual Alan T. Waterman Award of the National Science Foundation (NSF), and in 1993 he was awarded the John Bates Clark Medal, given every two years to the outstanding American economist under the age of 40.
He is currently the Charles W. Eliot University Professor at Harvard University and the Weil Director of the Mossavar-Rahmani Center for Business & Government at Harvard’s Kennedy School. He and his wife Elisa New, Host and Director of PBS’s Poetry in America, reside in Brookline and have six children.

Who can attend this event?
This event is open to currently enrolled Tsinghua University and Peking University students, both undergraduate and graduate, as well as faculty and staff currently employed by Tsinghua University and Peking University. We have 200 seats open for this event.
What is required to join this event?
All guests must present a valid registration from this website (Bag Event 百格活动)as well as a valid Tsinghua University or Peking University ID Card in order to access Schwarzman College for this event.

Entering and Exiting Schwarzman College
Registered attendees can enter Schwarzman College 30 minutes before the session begins. For this session, doors open at 7:00 pm. No attendees will be admitted after 7:55 pm. Following the conclusion of this event at around 9:00 pm, Schwarzman College’s status as a dormitory means we must ask that all attendees who join us for the session exit the building. All guests' cooperation is greatly appreciated.
