
This session will feature globally renowned economists Jeffrey D. Sachs and David Daokui Li in a discussion of the Chinese macroeconomy, its outlook in the short and medium-term, and the implications for global economic prospects. Remarks by our two guest speakers will be followed by Q&A with the audience.

杰弗里·萨克斯Jeffrey D. Sachs
Jeffrey D. Sachs is University Professor and Director of the Center for Sustainable Development at Columbia University, where he directed the Earth Institute from 2002 until 2016. He is President of the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network, Co-Chair of the Council of Engineers for the Energy Transition, Commissioner of the UN Broadband Commission for Development, academician of the Pontifical Academy of Social Sciences at the Vatican, and Tan Sri Jeffrey Cheah Honorary Distinguished Professor at Sunway University. He has been Special Advisor to three United Nations Secretaries-General, and currently serves as an SDG Advocate under Secretary General António Guterres. He spent over twenty years as a professor at Harvard University, where he received his B.A., M.A., and Ph.D. degrees. Sachs has received 42 honorary doctorates, and his recent awards include the 2022 Tang Prize in Sustainable Development, the Legion of Honor by decree of the President of the Republic of France, and the Order of the Cross from the President of Estonia. His most recent books are The Ages of Globalization: Geography, Technology, and Institutions (2020) and Ethics in Action for Sustainable Development (2022).

李稻葵David Daokui Li
Professor David Daokui Li is a leading Chinese economist. He has been professor of Economics of Tsinghua University since 2006. Together with Eric S. Maskin, 2007 Nobel Laureate of Economics, he is a Co-president of the Society for the Analysis of Government and Economics (SAGE). He also served as the founding Dean of the Schwarzman College of Tsinghua University from 2014 to 2017. His research and teaching cover a wide range of economic fields, including government and economics, economic development, comparative economics, and the Chinese economy.
As the Director of the Center for China in the World Economy (CCWE), which has evolved to become the Academic Center for Chinese Economic Practice and Thinking (ACCEPT) of Tsinghua University, he has been active in policy discussions inside and outside China. Between 2008 and 2023, he served as a member of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC). In July 2019, he was appointed the Chief Economist of the New Development Bank.
Professor Li holds a Ph.D. in Economics from Harvard University. He obtained his B.S. from Tsinghua University in 1985 as a member of the first cohort of graduates of the School of Economics and Management.

This event is open to currently enrolled Tsinghua University students, both undergraduate and graduate, as well as faculty and staff currently employed by Tsinghua University.
What is required to join this event?
All guests must present a valid registration from this website (Bag Event 百格活动)as well as a valid Tsinghua University ID Card in order to access Schwarzman College for this event.
Entering and Exiting Schwarzman College
Registered attendees can enter Schwarzman College 30 minutes before the session begins. For this session, doors open at 11:00 am. No attendees will be admitted after 11:55 am.
Following the conclusion of this event, Schwarzman College is closed to visitors as it is a residential building (student dorm). We ask that all Tsinghua classmates and colleagues who join us for the session exit the building when our session concludes at around 12:30 pm. All guests' cooperation is greatly appreciated.
